Edicions Polígrafa, which has specialized in the graphic arts ever since 1910, began publishing books in 1962. During the early days of this venture, Joan Prats supported Polígrafa as its adviser on its art publications and took on the editorship of the Fotoscop collection. Over the course of the years, Polígrafa has published books on the finest artists from Spain and abroad, including Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Eduardo Chillida, Max Ernst, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Antoni Tàpies, Roland Penrose, Llorens Artigas, Salvador Dalí, Joan Ponç, Alexander Calder, Gaudí and Modernisme, Juan Gris, Zao Wou-ki, Wifredo Lam, Christo, Rufino Tamayo and many others, for the most part with the personal collaboration of the artists themselves. These publications are issued in a number of languages such as Catalan, Spanish, French, English, German, Japanese, Greek and even Chinese in order to raise awareness of these artists far and wide. Edicions Polígrafa has now added to its range of books on more recent artists such as Vito Acconci, Juliao Sarmento, Tony Oursler, Cristina Iglesias and Sigmar Polke, and some of the foremost architects of our time, including David Chipperfield, Wiel Arets and Santiago Calatrava. The wing of the company that publishes graphic work, known as Polígrafa Obra Gràfica, has kept pace with the publications side, releasing prints by most of the artists mentioned above. |
